Lo siento...en ingles!!!Yesterday, Pat Robertson, a "christian" conservative who is well known from his failed bid for the US Presidency in 1996 against Clinton made an outrageous statement on his television show "The 700 Club". He stated that Venezuela is a dangerous threat to the US; a potential breeding ground of Muslim terrorists and that Chavez should be assassinated to avoid the cost of another war!

In perspective,( remembering that Dwight and I are christians, that our eldest son is an ordained Pastor (ie priest) and all our children attended a "christian" university...) Pat Robertson is a WHACKO!!! In the early 80's most of the christian community in the US rejected his whole movement because of its empahsis on emotionalism, the whole speaking in tongues doctrine. He was considered "far out" then. Gradually through the early 90's he moved his position more toward the center of the christian movement rather than the far LEFT where he had been. You must remember though that the "christian" movement in the US is generally considered right/conservative so in that context, Robertson moved from the far left of the right movement and made himself much more acceptable to christians in general. Then as the 90's progressed, he aligned himself even more with Jerry Falwell and the MORAL MAJORITY which arose primarily in reaction to the whole Bill Clinton/Monika Lewinsky scandal and other thngs that occurred during Clintons presidency. After Robertson failed bid for the Presidency in 1996, he became more a commentator on US foreign policy and matters of "morality" within the country.

To many christians, like myself and my family, he is totally off-base. It is impossible in our mind to declare oneself a "christian" and then behave as if you never knew anything about Christ!! This is the fulcrum upon which Robertson comments in the media yesterday turn. I seriously wonder if the Bush Administration did not go behind the scenes and prompt this man to make these comments on public television, knowing full well that Chavez would not be long in picking up on it and then using it to further strengthen his allegations that the CIA are out to kill him. It is the most preposterous thing that has happened in the public media this year. I am waiting now to see what the fallout is in VE.

In the meantime, I wanted you each to know that this is coming. The answer to this is that Pat Robertson is not a representative of the US govt; he is not a reliable leader of any segment of the US population. Ignorant Americans (and there are many!) might believe from his comments that Venezuela is poised to attack the US...and that is where the danger in these comments arises. Ignorant people in Venezuela may believe that the US would assassinate Chavez or worse, invade Venezuela. And ignorant people in America may believe that indeed Venezuela is a hotbed of Muslim terrorists and Chavez is a huge threat to this nation.

Under this Bush Administration...it seems that ignorance will rule the world!!! So just writing to let you all know.....Pat Robertson is ignorant....he is not a representative of the US govt....he is a marginalized former Presidential candidate who was defeated in election 10 years ago....and he is not a "christian" anything by any stretch of the imagination nor does he articulate the feelings of the American people or American christians.

La raz´n es que los puntofijistas eran corruptos, ¿que culpa tengo yo de eso? Sus acciones durante las masacres de Puente Llaguno y de Kenendy, las acciones de las hordas del terror bolibanano que acabaron con la vida de Maritza Ron... el que a hierro mata a hierro muere.

Lo unico importante es que si algún patriota decide ponerle una bala entre ceja y ceja, es trabajar para que la izquierda desfasada no lo convierta en mártir. Y si no lo mata nadie, entones habrá que seguir luchando para derrotarlo, enjuiciarlo y condenarlo por todos los crímenes que ha cometido.

Ni siquera el Goriloro se creía las mentiras acerca de su asesinato. Hoy ya eso no lo va a dejar dormir. Nosotros, en lo que nos toca, vamos a comernos un dulce de lechosa antes de acostarnos con una sonrisa convencidos que los próximos días no van a ser tan cómodos para el Mico Mandante.

Creo que si los venezolanos han de juzgar a Chávez, debe ser mediante sus leyes y dentro de su territorio.

No se debe permitir el entrometimiento de gente como este manipulador de masas Robertson.

The commandment, "Thou Shalt not kill" is directed toward individuals. "Thou" is the Old English equivelent of "usted" whereas "You" (in the KJV) would be the Old English equivalent of "ustedes". There has never been any scriptural prohibition on nations killing in war, nor against individuals killing in self-defense. Robertson wasn't advocating an individual kill Chavez, but that the US government do it (while the government might utilize an indiovidual, it would still be on behalf of the government). So from a scriptural standpoint, I don't see how he's violated anything. Of course, as I said on my blog, whether or not it would be a good idea to remove Chavez, a television program is an inappropriate place to encourage the government to do it, especially so directly.

As for whether Chavez is actually that much of a menace or not, I defer that to you Venezuelan's who would certainly know better. But then, the Iraqi people certainly weren't in much of a position to handle, much less voice opposition to Saddam Hussein while he remained in power.

Robertson was not speaking against Venezuela, but against Chavez. As I said, I'm not familiar enough with Chavez to know how much of a threat he is, but there are more than enough Venezuelans that I have read, that would like it if Chavez were removed, although not all agree that assassination, especially by a foregn power, would be a wise way to do it.

We imprisoned Manuel Noriego for his involvement in drug trafficing. Fidel Castro aside (he gained a trump card through the cowardly agreement of the Kennedy administration) Chavez should understand that we will ensure our safety, and courting those who are our enemies while denouncing us would certainly make us look carefully at his actions. If the US government felt that Chavez presented a real threat to the security of the United States, then they would be justified in taking action, but in all honesty I think we are quite a ways away from anything that drastic, in spite of Robertson's suggestions.
