If you come from the english-speaking world

In the spanish-speaking world, the word "liberal" still means what it used to mean in english at the end of the nineteenth century: the filosofy of individualism, liberty and personal responsibility. Unfortunately for you, the old liberals let statism to steal the word and distort entirely its meaning. Now when you hear of "liberals" in the US or the UK, you can almost be certain they are referring to a statist, interventionist or some sort of soft socialist, unless the word "liberal" is accompanied by the adjective "clasical" as in "clasical liberal".
We, who are trying to build a movement based on the liberal principles of self-ownership and non-agression, do not pretend in the least to let the socialist forces take for themselves the only word that describes our political philosophy from begining to end. Therefore you will read here the word "liberal" profusely and it will always mean what it has always meant: freedom for all, absolute respect for property rights and personal responsibility.
As Mises said in the appendix to english edition of Liberalism: In the clasical tradition
The school of thought that advocates private ownership of the means of production must in any case also be granted a claim to some name or other. But it is best to adhere to the traditional name. It would create only confusion if one followed the new usage that allows even protectionists, socialists, and warmongers to call themselves "liberal" when it suits them to do so.
We will not surrender the word "Liberalism" to the statist. Have no doubt of that!

A thought-provoking blog self-described as “For individualism, freedom and markets in Venezuela” . You can recognize an independent thinker in this blog.
